CLASS INFORMATION!

 

Registration will begin at 7:15AM.  

The class will start at 8:00 AM SHARP!  

 

What you will need for class!  

 

  • Handgun - UNLOADED and in a case.  You may bring the firearm into the class room.  However NO NO NO ammunition can be brought into the classroom.  It is to be left in your vehicle until needed.

 

  • Magazine for your firearm...unless you have a revolver.  Magazines are to left in the car until needed and must be unloaded.  We will practice loading and unloading in class with dummy rounds.

 

  • 100 rounds of ammunition (make sure it fits your firearm)

 

  • Outside the waistband, belt mounted holster that fits your firearm.  We will be practicing dry fire drawing from concealment, so it is best if you have your own holster.

 

  • Hearing and Eye Protection for the range....and a baseball cap.   You should also wear a high collar, buttoned shirt so the brass does not go down your shirt.

 

  • Range bag to transport your firearm.

 

  • Notepad and Pen

 

  • Snacks and drinks 

 

  • Lunch - lunch will be a working lunch and will be provided (Italian Beef) for $5...or bring your own.

State of Illinois Requirements to get a Concealed Carry License - 

 

According to Illinois State Law - The applicant must:

 

  • Be at least 21 years of age 

 

  • Have a valid FOID card (if an Illinois resident) or be eligible for a FOID card if a  non-resident. 

 

  • Have not been convicted or found guilty in Illinois or any other state of: 

  •         A misdemeanor involving the use or threat of physical force or violence to  any person within the last             5 years 

  •         2 or more violations related to driving while under the influence of alcohol, other drug or drugs,                      intoxicating compound or compounds, or any combination thereof, within the last 5 years 

 

  • Not be the subject of a pending arrest warrant, prosecution, or proceeding for an offense or action that could lead to disqualification 

 

  • Not have been in residential or court-ordered treatment for alcoholism, alcohol detoxification, or drug treatment within the last 5 years 

 

  • Successfully complete 16 hours of firearms training, including classroom and range instruction."  YEP THAT"S THIS COURSE! 

 

 

The day has finally come and the State of Illinois has issued the curriculum for Illinois Concealed Carry License.  We have developed and received approval by the Illinois State Police for our curriculum. However, at Illinois Tactical Academy, we don't like to present the bare minimum.  We like to go above and beyond what is required by statute in order to give you the skills and tools that will give you the leg-up, should a situation present itself and you are forced to defend yourself or another.  The 2 day class will be taught by former Police Officers.  (Who better to tell you how to carry a firearm than people that have done it 24/7)

 

The Illinois Concealed Carry License curriculum is being broken into the following phases:

       Day 1  (March 21)  -   NRA Basic Pistol Certification  

 

Teaches the basic knowledge, skills and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely.  This course includes both classroom and range time and satisfies the states DAY 1 requirements.   Students  learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals - stance, grip, sight alignment, sight picture and trigger control; range rules;  storing the firearm at home, in a vehicle and in public; cleaning the pistol; ammunition identification and selection, firearm identification and continued opportunities for skill development.

 

Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet.  Students will take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination and will receive a course completion certificate upon passing the exam.  

 

Day 2 (March 22) - State and Federal Laws, Plus Firearm Proficiency 


1.   All applicable State and Federal laws relating to the ownership, storage, carry, and transportation of a firearm; Minimum 4 hours Classroom

a. The Act in its entirety,

        1) with emphasis on 430 ILCS 66/10(h) which includes instruction on the appropriate and  lawful interaction with law enforcement while transporting or carrying a concealed firearm.

        2) with emphasis on 430 ILCS 66/65 which includes instruction on prohibited areas and the parking lot exception.

b. The FOID Act 430 ILCS 65/1 et. seq.

c. Relevant portions of the ILCS including but not limited to

        1) 720 ILCS 5/7-1. Use of force in defense of a person**
        2) 720 ILCS 5/7-2. Use of force in defense of dwelling**
        3) 720 ILCS 5/7-3. Use of force in defense of other property**
        4) 720 ILCS 24/1 et. seq. Unlawful Use of Weapons**

** Defining dwelling, aggressor, forcible felony and unlawful use of weapons pursuant to the ILCS.

 

2. Weapon Handling; Minimum 4 hours.

    a. Dry fire practice drills, handgun fundamentals
    b. Dry fire practice drills from concealment
    c. Live fire practice drills, handgun fundamentals
    d. Live fire qualification with a concealable firearm consisting of minimum of 30 rounds which must  include 10 rounds from a distance of 5 yards; 10 rounds from a distance of 7 yards; and 10 rounds from a distance of 10 yards at a B-27 silhouette target approved by the Illinois State Police. * The Department will accept up to 8 hours of in-person training already completed toward the 16 hour training requirement as outlined in Section 75 .... yep you will receive the 8 hour NRA training on Day 1!
